Since the 1st May 2012 Aquam Water Services has been handling all applications for the hire of temporary water standpipes for use within the Thames Water network.

Our team are on hand to assist both new and existing customers with the standpipe and licence application process and to ensure that you receive your metered standpipe quickly and efficiently. All applicants must obtain the correct water licence, which is based on your likely daily water requirements.

Please note that only approved standpipes obtained through Aquam Water Services Ltd are authorised to be used on the Thames Water network and the use of any other equipment will neither be compliant nor legal and could result in prosecution.

If you witness an unapproved standpipe being used please report it to us either directly to the depot or via the link on this page. All reports are treated in the strictest confidence.

If you would like to process a standpipe application or receive a quote, please complete the below application form and a copy of your application/quote will be emailed to you and the depot for processing.

Please note, all invoices for licenses and standpipes for the Thames Water network are due for immediate payment and standpipes and licenses can not be released until payment has been received.

Delivery & Collection

We aim to deliver as soon as possible to meet your needs, to anywhere within the Thames Water network (price on application), alternatively customers may prefer to collect from their nearest available depot.

Please note you will need to contact the Office prior to your requested collection date to arrange the Off‑hire.

Meter Readings

All our standpipes are now supplied with smart meters that allow us to obtain meter readings remotely. On occasions we will request a meter reading from you and this can be supplied to us by:

Hydrant Use

25mm and 60mm approved standpipes are only permitted to be used on wash-out hydrants in the Thames Water region.

The use of Fire Hydrants is strictly prohibited unless prior permission has been given by Thames Water.

If you require a standpipe out of this area, please locate the correct water company via our interactive map and contact the relevant depot.

Calm Network Training

Each user operating standpipe equipment on this network must have a Calm Network Certificate.

On successful completion of the free online Calm Network Training course, operators receive a certificate. Their details are registered on a central database for a year, after which an annual refresher course is required to keep their skills up-to-date.

Subject: Help Us Protect Water Supplies During Current Drought Conditions

Thames Water is asking all customers and licensed standpipe users to help reduce water demand during the current period of prolonged dry weather and drought conditions.

Where possible, please:

Reduce overall water consumption.
Move non-essential water use to overnight periods.
Avoid unnecessary water use and ensure water is only used where essential.
Turn off taps, hoses, and standpipes when not actively in use.
Check equipment regularly for leaks and report any issues promptly.

Your support can make a real difference in helping us maintain reliable water supplies across the region.

In particular, we ask that you avoid, where possible, filling from hydrants within the SN8 and RG17 postcode areas due to current operational pressures on the network in these locations.
